Minsk, the capital city of Belarus, was home to around 100,000 Yidden prior to its destruction during World War II. The few who survived endured religious oppression under Soviet rule, which left Minsk bereft of Yiddishkeit for many years.
Since his arrival several years ago, Rabbi Deutsch has been working to revive religious observance in the area and he procured a large building, which now houses a beautiful Mikvah Tahara Mikvah, which sees around 20 tevilos each month. The number of users is expected to increase as more unaffiliated Yidden become aware of and commit to this essential mitzvah.
