Situated in the North-West of France, Normandy is famous for its spectacular coastline and cliffs, which draws scores of people to the region. Many Yidden own summer homes in the area and they visit frequently, particularly during the summer months. In fact, last Shavuos found the shul with as many as 700 people throughout Yom Tov!
While the area receives large numbers of visitors, its population is expected to increase substantially due to the upcoming launch of a new express train from Paris to Deauville that will drastically cut travel time. The journey, which currently takes two-and-a-half hours during off-peak periods, and as long as five hours during peak times, will now be reduced to a mere 45 minutes. This will make it faster for people with businesses in Paris to get to the city from Deauville, than from other areas in Paris amid traffic.
The kehillah has expanded even in its present state and plans are underway for the imminent establishment of a Talmud Torah to service the many school-aged boys. All of this growth reinforced the need for a local mikvah, which is anticipated to raise Yiddishkeit standards across the entire region.
