Well known for its glory as the center for Karliner chassidim, the Pinsk pre-war Jewish community comprised 75% of its overall population. By the 1980’s, however, Pinsk Jewry was virtually non-existent, until the arrival of Manchester-born Rabbi Moshe Fhima in the year 2000.
Rabbi Fhima initially established the country’s first Jewish boarding school for boys. This was quickly followed by a parallel girls’ boarding school, the renovation of the local shul, summer camps and the establishment of a yeshiva for students from abroad.
The local Mikvah is the busiest in all of Belaru3.5s. Mikvah Tahara recently renovated the dilapidated premises to a high standard, drastically enhancing the experience and encouraging more families to make use of its facilities.
